We arrived at the hospital at 7:30am on Friday morning. Devin is here in his pre-op room, with his buddy George.
To calm him before the procedure, they gave him something called Versed. He is feeling very sleepy and is talking funny. Great stuff!! He's giving me the thumbs up!
The surgery lasted about 30-45 minutes, during which time we went to the cafeteria to get some sandwiches to eat, and got Kate a Lunchable and Antonio wanted some cheetos to snack on. Then we went back to his pre/post op room to sit and wait. I finally got called back to post-op where I took this picture. Devin was just trying to wake up.
Here is what his port looks like after surgery. The part with the small, pin-hole sized dot on it is where the needle would go in to access the port. The surgeon accessed it once he got it in place and it worked perfectly. He placed it between the skin and his rib, so that when it is accessed, it won't move backwards and out of place. The surgeon said he is so lean, that he didn't really have any fat pockets to place it in, so the ribs were a good place.
Today is the day after surgery and he's feeling really good. I am so thankful that things went so well for him. He is up and playing his Wii and acting like he always does.
Thank you, God for answered prayers.
