Today is Sunday, the Lord's Day, even in the hospital. Actually, every day is the day that the Lord has made, no matter where you are. I am thankful for each new day that I am able to spend with my husband and children and all my family and friends that I love.
Devin hasn't thrown up since late yesterday. Yeah! Now the work of getting him eating and back on his feet again begins. It's not an easy task, let me tell you. He always throws up when he first starts to eat again. No wonder he hardly ever wants to eat. It makes him feel sick.!
I am trying to give him more control over his illness. He's 9 years old now, and a little more ready to understand what he has to do to get well again. He tends to lay there and feel sorry for himself and cry over little things that he has no control over. I'm trying to help him understand that he has a goal, and that is to be well enough to go home. Now to reach your goal, you have to take small, but important steps in between. Then I broke those steps down for him into things he can do easily, so that he'll feel successful. First, he's done throwing up. Next, he needs to start putting something in his mouth, like an ice chip, or even a Cheerio, making sure he doesn't gag or choke on it. After that, it will be jello or soup. Then so on and so on until he can hold down a small meal, then go home. We hope to have him home sometime tomorrow, before Christmas day.
Kate is here with us at the hospital, and is being so good! I really think she likes it here. She enjoys watching the fish in the playroom, and we go for long walks around the two connected hospitals while Devin is sleeping. It's good exercise for me that I never get, and Kate enjoys all the different sights. Especially now, there are Christmas trees up everywhere, and downstairs near the cafeteria there is a miniature Christmas town set up. It's so neat.
I'll update Devin's progress later today.
God's blessings,
