Remember When......

Remember the other day when I was saying that I was on the internet looking up one room school houses in WI? Well, today I went to Goodwill, and as I was checking out the book section, look what jumped out at me?
It's a book about one room and old school houses in rural WI, complete with pictures and descriptions from students and teachers who attended those schools.
I haven't read through much of it yet, but one page tells how a teacher was hired in the year 1901 to teach for a term of seven months at a salary of $29.75/month. I see teachers have always been underpaid!!

I can't wait to dig into this book! It looks really interesting.

Our Goodwill trip also included purchases of a pair of pants for the Big Kahuna (Antonio), TONS of books for the boys and Kate, and a game. After Goodwill we went to Dollar Tree where I met the nicest lady. She introduced herself to me and they are a conservative Christian family of nine children!(I'm so jealous!) She gave me all her information and I intend to call or email her soon. Maybe we can strike up a friendship. She happened to know a lady that I am going to contact about a homeschool group in my area. I was told that she covers full time like me, so that will be nice to have a friend here in this area who believes like I do. I thank God for sending like minded Christians to me. It is a special sisterhood that is like a sweet foretaste of Heaven.

Have a blessed Sunday! I'll be listening to church on the phone tomorrow.

There is a one room school house that you can tour in Rhinelander. It is a lot of fun to go there. There are a few teachers still alive that taught in one room schools and I love listening to them talk about what it was like to teach.

where we live, the countryside is peppered with old abandoned one room school houses. I often wish I could just buy one.
I went to a 4 room school house for 8 years and loved it. There were 5 of us in first grade and when we graduated high school, my class was a whopping 20 students. Almost as good as homeschooling.
What a great book find at goodwill. That store is just such fun. I often think God uses Goodwill !
